Bone and sinus treatment

Serving patients throughout Southampton, Fareham and Park Gate

When a tooth is lost, the jawbone beneath it shrinks from lack of stimulation and can change the shape of your mouth. Loss of bone can also be caused by gum disease, tooth development defects, trauma, and by previous dental procedures where efforts were not made to restore natural bone.

Before dental implant treatment can begin your dentist will first need to check that there is sufficient bone for an implant to be placed successfully. If there is insufficient bone you may need to have pre-treatment before your dental implants can be placed. This may include oral surgery procedures such as bone grafting, bone expansion or sinus lifts.

At your initial consultation our implant dentist, our dentist, will use x-rays and scans to establish if pre-treatment is required and will explain this further.

Pre-treatment

Bone expansion

Your dentist may recommend a bone expansion if your jawbone is too narrow for a dental implant to be fitted. This involves making a small hole into your jawbone where your implant will eventually sit and using bone graft material to widen and strengthen the bone. The bone will be left to heal before a dental implant can be successfully installed.

Bone graft

Bone grafting is a treatment that is used to strengthen the area of bone your dental implant will be inserted into. This involves taking bone from elsewhere in the mouth and placing it in the area to be strengthened. After a number of months, this will fuse together, creating a stronger base for your implant.

Sinus lift

If there is not enough space to fit a dental implant in your upper jaw, our dentist may recommend a sinus lift. This involves moving the sinus membrane upwards to create space in your bone for your new tooth. Once the membrane has been moved, a bone graft will fill the space that has been created to make a suitable space for your dental implant.

Once our dentist is happy your bones and gums are healthy, your dental implant treatment can begin.

The reception are always friendly and welcoming into what can be an uncomfortable experience being a dentist. The hygienist, Ruth is calm, gentle, welcoming and friendly, and is the best I've ever visited.

A highly professional operation that listens to your needs and provides a well detailed response. They don't rush things, are experts in their field, and listen to your concerns and explain stuff thoroughly.

The hygienist personally came to collect us. Linda was welcoming, friendly, interested and knowledgeable. She confirmed my comfort level frequently. She kept me informed at every stage. You should be proud to have her represent your practice.

I attended with my 2&4 year old, the staff are so good at engaging with the children whilst also attending to my care. The children always feel comfortable coming to the dentist (2 year old isn’t always so sure!) but the staff go above and beyond to ensure they feel comfortable and make it not a scary place.

1st May 2025

Excellent service from the hygienist. There wasn’t a dental nurse present hence the score

1st May 2025

Everyone is efficient friendly & capable. My only issue is that, bearing in mind I complete 1 of these surveys each time I attend the dentist could we as patients have fewer surveys to do - if I was unhappy with the service I would complain!

26th April 2025

Greeted by the reception staffI felt very comfortable with the treatment & the hygienist.
